Ranger: Boy Wonder

About the Author:

I’m Sean Sadler aka Ranger Boy Wonder. I started going to Element 11 in 2010. I spent my first two events as a participant and got to know a few Rangers through my friend Ranger Poundcake.

In 2012 I finally went to ROM and got my first taste of what it’s like to be part of the Ranger family. It was pretty cool to hear the stories from the senior Rangers. There are so many hilarious things happen that you’d otherwise never hear about!

I decided to immerse myself in the Ranger community and my first year I volunteered around 30 hours. I wanted to walk with as many Rangers as I could and help on every perimeter if possible. I’m a bit of an introvert and becoming a Ranger forced me to meet and interact with people I’d otherwise never have met. I loved stopping in at different camps, pulling up a seat in the shade and talking to people. I learned how diverse our community is and got to meet so many amazing people!

Over the last two years I’ve learned a lot about myself and this awesome community. Being a Ranger I’ve learned patience, I’ve learned to REALLY listen to people, and I’ve learned how to communicate more effectively. My life has really been enhanced by getting to know new and old Rangers alike. I’ve seen the best and the worst of people since becoming a Ranger and I’ve seen so much love and shared in tragedies within our community. I wouldn’t trade the Ranger family for the world!

This year I became part of the Element 11 Ranger Council. I’m honored to be in this position and help lead such an astounding group of volunteers. If you’re on the fence about becoming a Ranger, take the leap and go to ROM. Give us a weekend and get to know us and you’ll be surprised at the comradery. Becoming a Ranger and giving back to this community is one of the most rewarding things you can do, not only for your community, but yourself as well.

I look forward to seeing you at ROM and on our local playa!
