A message from the E11 Board.

Dear Element 11 Community,

We are saddened by the event that occurred at Colorado’s Regional Burn, Apogaea, this past weekend. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to their community and Board of Directors for their swift and responsible action in prioritizing participant safety during this weekend’s incident. We want to relay some information to reassure the safety of our upcoming event while also educating our community.

Based on Apogaea Board’s update:

  • There is no current indication that this was a widespread incident.
  • There is no reason to believe this will affect future plans for our event.

However, out of respect for everyone’s safety, we’re asking our community to remain vigilant:

  • Be aware of anything you ingest, and practice heightened awareness around personal consumption.
  • Watch out for each other—look for unusual behavior or unexpected substances.
  • Report anything suspicious to a ranger. If you are unsure, report it anyway and let them handle it.
  • We strongly encourage testing whenever possible. If you’re uncertain, err on the side of caution.

Narcan (naloxone) facts and camp recommendations:

  • Narcan is a safe, life-saving medication that reverses opioid overdoses—it has no effect unless opioids are present.
  • All camps are encouraged to carry Narcan on-site.
  • Camp leads should educate campers on how to use Narcan and where it is stored.
  • Helpful resources—including free Narcan classes and where to obtain it—can be found here:

We also encourage everyone to attend the upcoming Town Hall at Element 11, during the Opening Ceremonies, to ask questions, share concerns, and stay informed as we continue refining emergency plans and community health protocols.

Thank you again for your support and vigilance. Together, we maintain the spirit and safety of Element 11.
