stART Event
stART is just around the corner, and we couldn’t be more excited to celebrate the incredible art coming to life in our community this year. We hope you’ll be part of it!
What is stART?
stART is Element 11’s annual art preview and fundraising event — a chance to share your vision, spark excitement, and raise real funds for your project. Picture a science fair with better vibes: you’ll set up a display with images, info, and insight about your work, then connect with community members who are genuinely excited to support what you’re building.
Attendees purchase tokens to donate to the projects they love. After the event, you’ll redeem those tokens for funding — and as a bonus, Element 11 will contribute $100 to your project just for showing up to participate!
Event Details
When: Sunday, April 19th | 3–5 PM
Setup: 2–3 PM | Teardown: 5–6 PM
Where: Utah Arts Alliance Ballroom (663w 100 S, Salt Lake City)
What to Bring:
• Visuals and info about your project (bring the work itself if it’s feasible!)
• Any setup gear you need — tables, extension cords, etc. (the venue provides space and chairs, the rest is on you)
• Something to collect tokens in
• Your people — friends and family are welcome and encouraged!
• A little cash if you want to support your fellow artists
Please Leave at Home:
• Anything excessively loud, oversized, or disruptive to neighbors – this is a shared space
• Fire art of any kind
• Content or activities that don’t align with the default world
After the Event:
Before you head out, please check in with us so we can count your tokens accurately. Funds will be mailed out the following week — this helps us keep our books clean and makes sure every project gets exactly what it earned.
Out-of-State Artists:
Can’t make it in person? You can still participate! Reach out to a local community member who can represent your project at the event. They’ll set up your display, chat with attendees on your behalf, and make sure your tokens get turned in at the end of the event. Just make sure to coordinate with them ahead of time so they’re prepared to speak to your vision — no one knows your project like you do, but a good hype person comes close!
We are so proud of this community and can’t wait to celebrate everything you’ve been building. Got questions? Reach out to us– we’re here to help!
Every year, a committee of involved artists and community leaders get together to peruse all the grant requests and to make some tough decisions about how to allocate our grant funds. The Art Grant committee is facilitated by the Art Director, however the Art Director makes no decisions and is not able to vote on art. The Art Grant Committee looks at each project based on a few different metrics:
- The 10 principles
- The Art Grant application/description
- Budget Description
- Interactivity
- & Previous Projects
We encourage everyone to consider contributing to Element 11 through their creativity and artistic vision. We would love to fund as much of this creative energy as possible. To make these decisions, we need artists to apply for an Art Grant in advance. Applications are closed for the current year, but here is some information to keep in mind for applying next year:
- Element 11 funds dozens of projects every year. In 2025, we awarded about $100,000 to participating projects, including art installations, performances, live music, theme camp interactivity, mutant vehicles, and burnable art.
- In 2023, we awarded about $80,000 to participating projects.
- Element 11 will fund up to 60% of accepted projects, artists and teams are expected to cover their remaining needs through fundraising or resources of their own. Please describe your fundraising strategy in your proposal.
- Describe your project. We’ll need to have a good idea of what your vision entails and how you intend to spend the money. Tell us about your size requirements, if it includes fire effects or sound, if you need open-playa placement, etc.
- Introduce us to yourself and your team. Include the skills and experience your team has, and how those will aid the successful completion of your project.
- Proposals may be submitted in any format, however we recommend PDF or PowerPoint. Be creative, but stay succinct.
